25 Ways To Win With People Chapters 6-10

Win with others by encouraging others
I will continue to summarize the book by John C. Maxwell entitled, 25 Ways to Win with People. Today, I will summarize chapters 6-10. Here are the chapter titles:

Chapter 6  Give Others A Reputation To Uphold
Chapter 7  Say the Right Words at the Right Time
Chapter 8  Encourage the Dreams of Others
Chapter 9  Pass the Credit on to Others
Chapter 10 Offer Your Very Best

Chapter 6 - Give Others A Reputation To Uphold
  • One of the best ways to inspire others and make them feel good about themselves is to show them who they could be.
  • When you give someone a reputation to uphold, you give him or her something good to shoot for. 
  • All people possess both value and potential
  • Back up your high opinion of other with action
  • Look past their pasts and give them reputations for their futures
  • Give people a new name or nickname that speaks their potential

Chapter 7 - Say the Right Words at the Right Time
  • The wrong words said at the wrong time discourage me
  • The wrong words said at the right time frustrate me
  • The right words said at the wrong time confuse me
  • The right words said at the right time encourage me
  • Be sensitive to time and place
  • The key to saying the right thing at the right time is paying attention to the context
  • Say it from the heart
  • Recognize the power of the right words at the right time
Chapter 8 - Encourage The Dreams of Others
  • Encouraging others in their pursuit of a dream is to give them a wonderful gift
  • People will live up to their dreams when they have a chance to fulfill them
  • Ask them to share their dream with you
  • Affirm the person as well as the dream
  • Ask about the challenges they must overcome to reach their dream
  • Offer your assistance
  • Revisit their dream with them on a consistent basis
  • Determine daily to be a dream booster, not a dream buster
Chapter 9 - Pass the Credit Onto Others
  • Check your ego at the door
  • Don't wait - pass the credit ASAP
  • Say it in front of others
  • Put it in print
Chapter 10 - Offer Your Very Best
  • Anyone can be an important person to me
  • Anything we do can be made important
  • You can become important to anyone
  • Make the most of your gifts and opportunities

Maxwell did a great job of providing pointers on how we must start with ourselves and become winners before we can make winners out of others.
