4 Tips on how to Write a Successful Blog

As a newbie to blogging, it's been quite a learning curve trying to figure out the technical, marketing and social aspects of the business. What makes it so confusing is that you hear so many views on what makes a successful blog. Some self professed blogging experts tell you that you that you should write at least 500 words or more for a blog to be reputable. Some experts tell you that use this software and others telling you THE way to start a blog and attract millions of viewers and make a million dollars in no time! After weeks of research and consistent trial error, I've come up with four tips that is beginning to help me with this blogging thing.

How to Blog

The first tip for writing a creating a successful blog is to write blogs that help others. Let's face it, people read and come back to blogs or any other media that benefits or interests them. It took me quite a while to figure that out even though I read this advice several times. I spent most of my time writing about things that Interested ME. Nothing wrong with writing about what you're interested in as long as your potential readers and customers do.

Second tip is to blog so that it satisfies the needs, wants or desires of your potential readers or customers. With so much noise on the Internet and other social media, you better be able to grab your readers' attention and keep it. You do this by giving them something they need or want. It's too easy for someone to visit your blog once and never come back. There is a lot of information and most customers aren't going to take the time or effort to stay on your site if it doesn't give them they can use. You can do this by giving them advise on how to market their sites, giving them tips on how to grill, or inside information on famous people or events.

Tip number three is fulfill a demand. What do your customers' want? Do they want info on how to write a successful blog? Do the want info on how to take better photos? Or, do they want info on how to coach your little league football team. Whatever your customers or readers demand, give it to them! It's a lot easier and profitable to give the reader or customer what THEY WANT rather than trying to force someone to buy information or products YOU WANT to sell. Bottom line. It doesn't work. I've tried that route.

Fourth tip is to put yourself in YOUR customers' shoes. This is hard because we think we would buy what we're selling or read what we're writing or else we wouldn't be blogging about it, right? After viewing several successful blogs, I'm seeing someone of a pattern. No blog fits a particular mold but they all provide information or products that people seem to want.
However, what I've found is that trying to duplicate successful blogs don't necessarily work either. What I've found is that you have find your own way to make your business successful. There are certain principles that are the same but such as blogging consistently and frequently. And marketing your blog daily. These principles won't change but what attracts YOUR customers will be different from blog to blog. You have to create your OWN brand and stay true to it.
