How Captain Jack Sparrow Influenced My Leadership Skills

Leadership influences everything when you sit down and really think about it. Leadership influences our households, our community, our nation, and mainly ourselves. If you were to ask five people what leadership is, I’m sure you would get five very different answers. It means different things to different people based on our backgrounds and experiences. But simply put, leadership is influence. It’s not a title, position or rank although certain privileges tend to come with position as we move up the latter. How many times have you seen certain people have high ranking position but not necessarily have the respect of his or her peers or subordinates.

(How Captain Jack Sparrow has Influenced my Leadership)

Leadership is the key to determining success in our business
As it relates to our business, leadership is key in determining if you’re going to be successful or not. There is no one to make you post everyday or market your business. It’s totally up to you. And that’s the biggest and hardest transition to going from working a job to owning a business. Most people don’t make this transition very well. That’s probably why 97% of people fail at business. They have a 9 to 5 mentality. On a “9 to 5,” you’re told what to do, when to do it and how to do what you do. When running a home-based or multi-level marketing business, everything falls on you. Recruiting. Promoting. Marketing. Sales. Everything.

Leaders should be self-motivated
As a business owner, you must be a leader. That means you must be self-motivated, willing to learn, and be responsible for the success or failure of your business. This is really hard for most of us to grasp because on our jobs, we receive a paycheck regardless of how well our company does or how well of job we do in many cases. Being a business owner is similar to being a straight commission sales person with all the responsibility of management. As some of us make that transition, let’s make sure that we focus on these five commitments:

-          Blog Daily
-          Market Daily
-          Daily Audio (Blogcastfm.com) or other blogging forums or podcasts
-          Read Daily
-          Attend Blogging Events

In order to become successful in the large things, we must first be consistent in the small things. By Doing the small things well over time will make you successful in the large things.  The one thing that’s great about owning our own business is that it’s up to us. We can be as successful as we want. At the same time, if you don’t work your business, your business won’t work.  Look forward to becoming a greater leaders now and in the future. What are you doing to increase your leadership skills and ability? Would like to hear your comments and feedback.
